Terms & Conditions

  • For the sake of simplicity, this document uses I/me/my/mine/myself to refer to Jeremy Lane, the certified massage therapist, and you/your/yours/yourself, to refer to the client.
  • All prices and fees mentioned in this document are those listed on http://jeremylane.ca/services, are in Canadian dollars and are subject to GST (5%) and QST (9.975%) unless otherwise stated.
  • All promotional and compensatory discounts mentioned in this document apply to the massage price only, and not to the travel fee.

I. Booking & Health Status Form

  1. Once your request is approved, I will send you a set of booking links, and you will be able to select a date and time for your massage. You may book with 24 hours’ notice and up to 30 days in advance. I reserve the right to cancel or modify your booking (this is mainly to account for possible scheduling conflicts that could occur due to technical issues).
  2. Upon booking, you will receive an online health status form to complete before your first appointment to make sure that there are no contraindications to massage and to let me know what you would like to focus on during the session. You will only have to fill out one health status form, for your first session (not for each subsequent session).
  3. If you selected to book an appointment for yourself and another person, 30- and 45-minute massages are also available to you. The personal information of the other person, or other people, will be requested on the health status form.
  4. If you selected to book an appointment for someone else on their behalf, I will arrange the appointment time with you via email/telephone, and the personal information of the person for whom you are booking will be requested. You may not book an appointment for more than one person on their behalf.

II. Arrival Time & Session Process

  1. The bookable services include an extra 30 minutes to allow for set-up, consultation, and take-down of supplies (e.g., when you book a 60-minute massage, the total session duration will be 90 minutes). I will arrive at your booked time, and the duration of the massage will be that of the title of the service that you have booked (e.g., if you book a 60-minute massage at 2:00pm, I will arrive at 2:00pm, your massage will last for 60 minutes, and I will leave by 3:30pm).
  2. Please keep in mind that any delays on your part could affect the duration of your massage.

III. The Massage Space

  1. The types of residence or lodging in which the massage space may be set up include houses, apartments, condominiums or hotel rooms. For the purposes of this document, the terms residence, resident, household, and live, are used. If the massage space is in a hotel room, please consider that these terms apply and are interchangeable with the terms lodging, lodger, lodging, and stay, respectively.
  2. The minimum required dimensions for me to set up my massage table and provide the service is approximately 6 feet by 10 feet (about 1.8 x 3 meters).
  3. If you live with another person or other people, the massage must take place in a closed room that is separate from other residents of the household, which will also enable me to give you privacy to change.
  4. If you live alone and the massage space is not in a closed room, there must be a separate room for me to go to while you change.
  5. If you have pets, there must be a way to keep your pets separate from the massage space while the massage takes place (e.g., in a separate room, a kennel, a cage, aquarium, terrarium).

IV. Hygiene, Scents & Allergens

  1. Please shower or bathe prior to the massage.
  2. The massage gel and oil that I use is neutral, unscented, hypoallergenic, and safe for use on most peoples’ skin. Please note that I will only use the massage gel or oil that I bring with me, unless, for medical reasons, you require me to use a different type of oil or gel – if this is the case, please let me know in advance, if possible. If you would like to know the ingredients of the massage gel or oil that I will be using, please contact me before the appointment.
  3. If you choose to use essential oils in your home (e.g., in an oil burner or diffuser), this is up to you; however, keep in mind that I am allergic to ylang ylang, and I may have adverse reactions to other oils (I am fine with most common oils, such as lavender, chamomile, eucalyptus). Please note that I do not practice aromatherapy, and the use of essential oils is not a part of my practice.
  4. If (1) you burn incense in your home, or (2) you smoke or use a vaporiser to consume tobacco or cannabis products, or any other substances, please refrain from doing so for a minimum of 1 hour before your booked massage time. This could cause me to have an adverse reaction, or the smell of smoke on my clothing or supplies may cause adverse reactions in clients whom I may see following your session.
  5. I reserve the right to terminate a session if exposure to allergens or other substances in your home poses a health risk (see X.3).

V. Technique Adjustment

  1. As a massage therapist, I aim to provide your ideal Swedish massage session, and I am always open to adjusting the pressure, pace, flow, and techniques used in the massage. However, the adjustments must remain within my jurisdiction, training, and experience, which is within the Swedish technique. I also need to respect the limits of my own physical capacity when making adjustments.

VI. Promotional Discounts

  1. If you provide a massage table (i.e., I don’t have to bring a massage table to your home), you will receive a $10.00 discount on the travel fee. I will still bring bolsters, sheets, and massage oil and/or gel.
  2. All first-time clients receive 20% off their first massage.
  3. If you participated as a client in my Swedish massage internship at IKRA, or if you were available to participate (i.e., you filled out the form and remained on my contact list), you will be considered a new client of this service and will thus receive the 20% discount mentioned above. In addition, as a thank you, you will receive 20% off your second massage with this service, under the same conditions above. The two 20% discounts cannot be combined into one session and must be used for the first two consecutive sessions, and on different days, under normal circumstances (see VII.3 for the exception*).

VII. Cancellation Fees, Lateness & Compensatory Discounts

  1. If you cancel your appointment within 24 hours of your booked time, you will not be charged any fees.
  2. If you cancel your appointment with less than 24 hours’ notice, and it is your first time doing so, you will not be charged any fees. Any subsequent cancellation with less than 24 hours’ notice will result in a cancellation fee that is 50% of the massage price. In this case, the amount owed must be paid before another session can be booked – you will be sent an invoice for the total amount. You can cancel or modify your booking by selecting “manage booking” in the confirmation email that will be sent to you.
  3. In the event that I arrive more than 15 minutes late for your booked appointment time, the following courses of action are possible: (1) I will provide the full service that was booked as long as you’re still available for it, and you will receive a 20% discount on your massage. If you are no longer available for it, you can either (2) receive a shorter massage at the listed price (30, 45, 60 or 75 minutes) with a 20% compensatory discount, or (3) postpone the session to a later date and you will receive a 20% compensatory discount on your next massage. *If you were already going to receive a promotional discount, the compensatory discount will be applied to the massage, and your promotional discount(s) will apply to your next massage(s). The two discounts cannot be combined on the same day.
  4. In the event that I have to cancel the appointment or modify it with your permission with less than 24 hours’ notice of the scheduled appointment time, you will receive a 20% discount on your next massage.
  5. In the event that I have to cancel the appointment or modify it with your permission with more than 24 hours’ notice of the scheduled appointment time, no compensation will be given.

VIII. Dissatisfaction, Insurance & Reimbursement

  1. Insurance receipts are issued for the massage price only and not the travel fee.
  2. Once the booked service has been provided, no reimbursement, discount, or credit will be issued. While I aim to provide a high-quality service, dissatisfaction with the massage experience does not warrant a refund or discount, unless the dissatisfaction arises from a breach of professional standards (see X.2).
  3. As a massage therapist with 415 hours of training, I am a member of the Fédération québécoise de massothérapeutes agréés (FQM), and I should be covered by all insurance companies operating in Quebec; however, the decisions of insurance companies are not in my control.
  4. Should a health insurance claim for the massage session that you have filed be rejected, no reimbursement, discount or credit will be issued.

IX. Safety & Anti-Harassment

  1. Three types of safety are defined here, which, if compromised, could affect the physical and/or psychological health and/or well-being of any party (for the purposes of this document: the massage therapist, the client, or any other person present in the household), and could give reason to terminate the session at any point (prior to, during, or after the massage), or terminate the client-massage therapist relationship entirely: (1) medical – could be compromised for reasons unrelated to the external environment; (2) personal – could be compromised by the actions of a party; and (3) environmental – could be compromised by external physical factors unrelated to the actions of a party.
  2. Factors that could compromise environmental safety can be divided into (1) ones that are in your control, which may include, but are not limited to: toxins, narcotics, or allergens in the air, or visible hazards or dangers (e.g., unsafe building structure, plumbing or electrical wiring); and ones that are not in your control, which may include, but are not limited to: incidents unrelated to the residence, or natural disasters.
  3. Actions carried out by any party which could compromise personal safety include, but are not limited to, the use of derogatory, insulting, or offensive language, inappropriate touching of a sexual or flirtatious nature, romantic or sexual advances, unwanted contact (messages, phone calls, in-person visits, or other) that does not pertain to, or is irrelevant to, the client-massage therapist relationship, or physical violence.
  4. You and I both reserve the right to terminate the session, or terminate the client-massage therapist relationship, at any point if there is any evidence that the safety of any party or parties has been compromised.

X. Massage Termination & Price Adjustment

  1. Should the session be terminated due to (1) your dissatisfaction with the service; (2) your medical safety being compromised; or (3) your personal safety being compromised by the actions of a party other than myself; if the massage has already started, the massage price will be that which is closest to 30, 45, 60, 75, or 90 minutes, based on how much time has elapsed at the time of termination. The travel fee will still apply, whether or not the massage has already started at the time of termination.
  2. Should the session be terminated due to the safety of any party being compromised by myself, you will not be charged for the massage or the travel fee.
  3. Should the session be terminated due to my medical or environmental safety being compromised, and if the massage has already started at the time of termination, the massage price will become that which is closest to 30, 45, 75, or 90 minutes, based on how much time has elapsed at the time of termination, you will receive 20% off your next massage, and the travel fee will still apply. If the massage has not yet started at the time of termination, and if the termination is due to my environmental safety being compromised by factors which are in your control, the travel fee will still apply. If the massage has not yet started at the time of termination, and if the termination is due to my environmental safety being compromised by factors which are not in your control, the travel fee will not apply.
  4. Should the session be terminated due to my personal safety being compromised by any party other than myself, the full price of the booked service and the travel fee must be paid, and a new service agreement must be made before a future session can be booked.
